9 DAYS AFTER 9/11 - PNAC Pushes for Iraq War

From The Terror Timeline by Paul Thompson and the Center for Cooperative Research

September 20, 2001: PNAC Think Tank Pushes For Iraq War

The Project for a New American Century (PNAC), an influential neoconservative think tank, publishes a letter to President Bush, advising him to conquer Iraq quickly. "Failure to undertake such an effort will constitute an early and perhaps decisive surrender in the wr on international terrorism." According to PNAC, the U.S. should demand that Iran and Syria cease all support of Hezbollah, and if they fail to do so the U.S. should "retaliate" against those two countries as well. PNAC also praises Israel as "America's staunchest ally against international terrorism" (PNAC 9/20/01) The next day, the Los Angeles Times notes that there is an internal battle inside the Bush administration about launching a war against Iraq. On one side are Secretary of State Powell and his allies, who argue that al-Qaeda needs to be defeated first. On the other side is the string of "Pearls" - Richard Pearls, Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, and their allies, who argue that Iraq should not wait. (Los Angeles Times 9/21/01) Powell successfully delays an invasion, arguing there is no evidence implicating Iraq in the 9/11 attacks. (Nw York Times 10/12/01)

Multiple Domain Names Related to 9/11 Are Registered

From The Terror Timeline by Paul Thompson and the Center for Cooperative Research

JUNE, 2000
Around this time a number of very suspicious web domains are registered, including the following:

AttackAmerica.com
AttackOnAmerica.com
AttackOnTwnTowers.com
August11Horror.com
August11Terror.com
HorrorInAmerica.com
HorrorInNewYork.com
NYCTerrorStrike.com
PearlHarborInManhattan.com
TerrorAttack2001.com
TowerofHorror.com
TradeTowerStrike.com
WorldTradeCenter929.com
WorldTradeCenterBombs.com
WorldTradeTowerAttack.com
WorldTradeTowerStrike.com
WTerroristAttack2001.com

A counterterrorism expert says, "It's unbelievable that [the registration company] would register these domain names" and "if they did make a comment to the FBI, it's unbelievable that the FBI didn't react to it." Several of the names mention 2001 and, apparently, there were no other websites mentioning other yeas. Registering a site requires a credit card, so presumably, this story could provide leads but it is unclear what leads the FBI gets from this if any. No sites are active on 9/11/01 (Cybercast News Service 9/19/03) All of the domains had expired around June 2001. (Cybercast News Service /9/20/03) This story is later called an "urban legend" but the debunkers are later themselves criticized. (Insight 3/1/02)
